A Tale from the Arabian Nights

Hassan is a taxi driver, and his cousin is also called Hassan, but he is a con man. Hassan the con man marries his cousin, the sister of Hassan the driver. He finds this an opportunity to blackmail his cousin, so he urges him to invest his money in a fake company. They travel to Alexandria and meet the beautiful Houria and the two fall in love with her.

On his way home one day, Morsi finds a child at the side of a road. He feels sorry for her, and takes her home with him to raise alongside his own daughter, Saniyya. The two girls become quite close over the years. When Morsi dies, their lives take very different paths, after a lot of suffering. While Sanniya falls in love with, and plans to marry, a wealthy man, Naimat falls into the grasp of a woman who is the ringleader of a number of beggars and pick-pockets.

A former Pasha lives on his estate with his daughter, while his son resides with his mistress in Cairo. Also on the estate lives a poor doctor with his daughter and her aunt. A relationship develops between the Pasha's daughter and the son of another Pasha. The father travels to Cairo to treat his eye and tries during his stay in Cairo to reconcile the son and father. When he returns to the estate, he makes the Pasha believe that his son misses him and wants to see him. The father believes this and sends a telegram to his son inviting him to come.

(Mustafa's) mother, who wanted her son to marry his cousin, is shocked. When she is injured in an accident, a doctor comes to treat her and meets Dalal, as he was one of her former clients. The doctor proposes to (Mustafa's) cousin, and (Dalal) refuses this marriage, which will reveal her past. She decides to kill the doctor to preserve her past from her husband's family.

Fouzy Pasha agrees with his daughter that whoever marries her must choose her for her person and love for her, not for her wealth. Indeed, Fouzy Pasha pretends to be bankrupt and even chooses a modest, popular residence and wanders the streets playing the piano while his daughter sings.
