Asheng, once a gang member of the Zhongshan District, was sent to jail for 12 years after saving his friend Shaou. He is released and returns to Linsen North Road, his old turf, finding it familiar yet perplexing after being away for so many years. Shaou is now a mob boss with his own turf. When the son of Seagull’s patron, Mr. Xiao, is murdered, the evidence points to up-and-coming mobster Monkey. Shauo tries to ambush Monkey and fails, getting shot by the drugged up gangster instead. Asheng, who initially refused to help Shaou, is now filled with rage and decides to avenge his friend.

Chang Ya-nan was once a student at the police training school. Due to health issues, she had to abandon her training and later married a police officer. Tragically, after several years of marriage, Ya-nan’s husband suddenly passed away. Forced to support her family, Ya-nan had to work as a cleaning staff member handling special cases at Sunshine Cleaning Company. The story centers on CHEN Wei and her daughter, seeking refuge from CHEN Wei’s violent husband in the Butterfly Mansion, known for its eerie reputation as a suicide hotspot. Strange events unfold, and warnings from Uncle LIANG, the building’s janitor, and Uncle Shan, the temple caretaker who lives on the top floor, about the unsafe floor are ignored due to financial constraints. Neighbors like Ah Di, who sees spirits, and the forbidden Room No. 613, intensify CHEN’s unease. Substitute manager Xiao Liang cares for CHEN, with her daughter showing joy in his visits. As the Chinese ghost month progresses, supernatural events escalate, revealing a crisis beyond CHEN Wei’s initial struggles.

Lorraine is a young novelist who has been suffering from severe headaches, nightmares and occasional short-term memory loss from a car accident. Daily medication has become a part of her life. One day, a plane crash kills Lorraine’s husband Kenny. Not long after the accident, a call made by Kenny’s cell phone startles Lorraine. On the other side of the line is a man named Ben. His fiancée Lynn was killed in the same plane crash. Kenny’s cell phone was put into Lynn’s remains by mistake. Out of curiosity, Ben checks out Kenny’s phone and finds evidence which leads him to believe that Kenny and Lynn were having an affair and were planning to run away together to a small town called X. Their sudden departure leaves Lorraine and Ben with a lot of unanswered questions. They decide to travel to X, an eventful journey with terrifying things in stall for them.

Chie Jen-Hao's Gangster Rock is a lovable mess, though more mess than lovable. It's essentially about people realising fame and fortune isn't everything as long as they're alive and have options, and while there are plenty of ways to film this sort of thing - from the stunning low-key fantasy drama of Studio 4C's Princess Arete to the laid-back coming-of-age vignettes that pepper Hong Kong and Taiwanese cinema - you generally need a compelling cast of characters and at least a modicum of professionalism to pull it off. Gangster Rock has neither. There are two stories here. One plotline follows Hau (Leon Jay Williams, Jump), a small-time gangster not long out of prison after a shakedown gone horribly wrong led to the death of his then girlfriend.
