The legend of the "Five Poisons Trial" in the martial world is a life-and-death game where only one person can survive to claim a reward of a thousand taels of gold. The mysterious wanderer Lin Yun teams up with Qiao Yu, Feng Yiyang, and others to face various challenges and adversaries, engaging in fierce battles along the way. Police detective Zhao Yi Chen's wife, Hu Jia Ying, who is six months pregnant, disappears one day leaving behind nothing but an 11-second emergency call. Nine years later, he receives a letter that leads him to a stranger's home, where he learns that his wife has been dead for a year and has left behind a mute 9-year old daughter. The drama tells both the story of Zhao Yi Chen's relationship with Hu Jia Ying and his investigation of the strange circumstances of her death, in which he uncovers shocking information about her. In the 1970s on the Binlusai islands, a young mother is killed when she was running with her son run from an evil presence in an abandoned Roman Catholic leper colony. In the present day, a group of four young men and women are travelling to the island to take part in a survival game run by TV channel Search Planet headed by Chen Jiadong (Philip Keung). Also on the boat is the television presenter Stanley (Jessica Xu) and cameraman Ken (Shaun Tam). The eight people have been split into four pairs where they are given a map which leads to a flag; their aim is to survive without any supplies, and the winning duo gets a grand prize of one-million dollars. As they approach the island, their ship is attacked by something unknown under the water and most of their luggage is lost. Shen Yilin (Mini Yang) has preserved her map which she gives to her partner Peng Fei (Jordan Chan).

When the nine stars align, the sea tomb of Shen Wanjiu emerges along with an island, attracting attention from all forces. Tianya, a chivalrous martial thief, sneaks into the granary to investigate the relief grain adulteration case, but is framed and forced into the dispute. He allies with Zheng Qianqian, head of Tianhai Ship Gang who has been searching for her missing father for years, and Shen Zhaowen, descendant of the Shen family.

In the near future, unambitious private investigator Zhan Mingrui is hired by Hu Shan to find her missing husband, tech tycoon Yan Ke. Meanwhile, the public is boycotting the androids launched by Yan Ke's company, because androids not only look identical to humans but also replace human labor. 　　After much effort, Zhan Mingrui finds the missing Yan Ke, who has been kidnapped and suffers from amnesia due to severe trauma. Adhering to the principle of doing good deeds to the end, Zhan Mingrui decides to help Yan Ke with psychological treatment and hopes to find clues about the kidnapper to enhance his detective career. However, as the investigation progresses, Zhan Mingrui discovers many suspicious points about Yan Ke, suggesting he might be an android. Zhan Mingrui warns Hu Shan to stay away from this "Yan Ke," but is met with Hu Shan's angry rebuke. Is this Yan Ke truly an android, and what is Hu Shan's true intention?
