Che 'Aaron is a manager of a rubber plantation owned by his own father. He is spending lavishly and often results money. Even so, he is also a trustee and not using office funds. He was heavily in debt with loan sharks and even acquaintances Che 'Normah a nightclub singer. To pay off his debts, Che 'Aaron had to lie to his father, Dato' Mahfiz by stating that he needed the money for getting married. Dato 'Mahfiz who live far away from her already urged Che' Aaron to marry. Hearing the good news, Dato 'Mahfiz not think long and continues to send RM5, 000 to his son.

The story tells us about a trishaw puller, Amran, and a rich young lady, Azizah. She fell in love with him but their relationship was not approved by her father, orang kaya Marzuki. Ghazali, a gangster entered the scenario when he befriended Marzuki after an accident and put up a false front when he realised Marzuki has a beautiful daughter. Marzuki, not knowing Ghazali's background, trusted him and decided to marry Azizah off to Ghazali. Azizah ran away and went to Amran's shed. Ghazali confronted them and Amran's mother was stabbed in the shoulder. When Marzuki found out the truth that Ghazali was a gangster, he called the wedding off but Ghazali threatened to kill and stole his money. Amran brought Azizah back to her home and managed to stop Ghazali from running away. Marzuki, realised that true beauty lies within and agreed to marry his daughter to Amran.

Kassim (P. Ramlee) returns to Singapore after finishing his studies in London and is thrust into a betrothal with the daughter of his father’s benefactor, Salmah. However, Kassim has already met and fallen in love with someone who shares his interest in Persian poetry. She is Rahimah, a flower salesgirl in Singapore. Unfortunately, Kassim’s father insists on him marrying his benefactor’s daughter, Salmah, who is a rich and cultured girl. Kassim decides to fulfil his father’s death wish and marries Salmah. Eventually, fate brings Kassim to reunite with Rahiman again in their twilight years.

In the Katong area, in eastern Singapore, lives Jaafar, a rich man, together with his wife Rubiah and her brother, the charming but badly-behaved Salim.
