Tells in parallel, the story of two Mexican brothers that want to go back to the United States after being deported for life, and the story of an American woman who lost her house and today believes she can get it back through Trump’s promises. Their journeys take them on road trips to meet with their past and with relatives who they believe can help them achieve their dreams. Immigration has been shown in many ways, but it has never been presented through the lives of Mexicans and Americans who live similar situations due to poverty and lack of family structure. To achieve a dream you first need to know the name of the dream.

Malena had her tubes tied after an abusive relationship and fled to Mexico City seeking a better life, but her ex-spouse took custody of her children despite her fierce fight. Today she has a new partner and is finishing the house where she dreams of living with her three children and a new baby. She needs IVF treatment if she is to have a second chance now that she's older and wiser. Malena decides to quit her job as a domestic worker and return home to set up a business and have the family she always dreamt of. Feeling abandoned, her children punish her while her partner threatens to leave if the IVF fails. Can she pull everyone together and make her dreams come true?

TIERRA CALIENTE is the story of an ordinary family in the state of Guerrero, Mexico. As they go about their normal lives, they are caught in the crossfire between the Narco drug cartels and the military. The screenplay is an edited transcript of conversations from the family recorded over a period of two years. Actors play the members of the family to protect their identity, but we are able to hear the actual recordings throughout the film, to remind the audience that these people are real.
