A fortune teller helps a woman gain the affections her beloved, with deathly consequences.

Paula is a circus performer married to the alcoholic clown-acrobat Lorio. Lorio's heavy drinking leads to him being severely injured during a performance. This forces Paula and the now-crippled Lorio to become street musicians. This film formerly ran to 81 minutes – regrettably, the second half is considered lost.

Director Frederick Ermler’s last silent feature and the last of four collaborations with actor Fiodor Nikitin. Nikitin plays an officer who spends a decade after the Great War as a shell-shocked amnesiac, until a glimpse of a woman through a train window sparks the return of his memory. He makes his way back to St. Petersburg, now Leningrad, a man out of time who struggles to make sense of the new society brought about by the revolution.

Based on an old Bukharan mythical tale from the 16th century. Dzhemal, daughter of the Khiva khan, and her milk sister Selekha set off from Bukhara to Khiva. On the way the caravan is attacked by robbers. The ataman of the gang Kur-bashi is struck by Dzhemal's beauty, but the girl rejects the brigand's love. His concubine Gul-Saryk, jealous of her new rival, helps the girls escape...

The film is based on the words of a song performed by Iza Kremer in Odessa.
