Steps of the City

While visiting his relatives in the city, a curious village boy sits on a motorcycle which starts right off, which causes lots of trouble to him and his parents.

Boris Buzančić plays an idealistic young doctor who is assigned a nearly deserted village. The backwards residents at first resent Buzančić's new-fangled methods. Gradually, he proves his worth and wins their confidence. The clincher comes when Buzančić rids the community of a despotic villain.

From a monastery in Makarska preserving an extremely valuable shell collection, we embark underwater. We study the life of the shell named after St. Jacob. It is a shell which can even jump, but sometimes it’s still not enough to escape its sworn enemy, the red comb star.

The film depicts former rural appearance of the Trnje and Novi Zagreb neighborhoods and the process of urbanization of these areas, which in the 1960s resulted in the construction of buildings, bridges, roads, and tram lines.
