A small Western community is terrorized by an unscrupulous empire-builder.

Played mostly for laughs, this silent Western featured the"The Mediator," a drifter who manages to restore peace both within a family and between miners and their powerful employer.

Cousins Jim and Ned Thorpe are best friends, but that comes to an end when they both vie for the affections of Eve Marsham, and Ned wins her. Jim leaves for South America, but when he returns some time later he finds that things have drastically changed--Ned is now a hardened criminal and, in addition, is badly mistreating his wife Eve.

Bearcat Turner Stacy loves Blossom Fulkerson and promise her to give up drinking. Turner is arrested and he find Blossom in the arms of Jerry Henderson. Kindard Powers attack Handerson thinking he's a Officer. He can rescue himself and hid in Blossoms cabin. Later he is attacked again but this time rescued by Turner. He forces him into marry Blossom from hes deathbed and when he dies, Turner goes after Powers and kills him. Blossom leaves the community, but comes back and agrees to marry Turner.

Kimura, a drunk and a gambler, has no affection for his daughter Kiku-San, who falls in love with Dick Tower, an American college friend of her brother Okuma.

Helen Meriless, a serious young girl, marries a shallow man, while Frances Lloyd, a butterfly type, marries a level-headed engineer. Both start their honeymoon on the same ship. A shipwreck causes a mix-up of the married persons; Helen and her husband remain faithful to each other, but Frances and her husband separately engage in adulterous activities. A rescue ship carries away the faithless couple, leaving the others to their fate; but the latter survive and eventually triumph.

Wealthy shipowner Lawrence Bradbury is determined to catch silk thieves who operate by means of his ships. His brother Jim, the ringleader, hoodwinks Lawrence into thinking he is a revenue officer. The skipper and a friend are suspected, but the friend proves to be the revenue man and the crooked brother is caught.

George Kirby steals a mining claim from Tom Curtis and forces him to become an outlaw. Years later, Curtis comes to the rescue when Anne Kirby is kidnapped by real outlaws, but when he finds out she is married to his enemy, he decides to hold her captive.

Dr. Stannard Wayne -- like all "good" men of the times -- is a God-fearing soul. He marries the former mistress of his friend, Dr. Arthur Richards, without knowing her past. Richards, an abortionist, resumes his affair with the woman and runs off with her. But before he leaves, he frames Wayne for one of the illegal operations he has done, and the innocent man is sent to prison for five years. When he gets out, Wayne has become angry and cynical.

Cowboy Stanley Carson is visiting Virginia Martin in a southern city when her brother and his gambler friends try to disgrace her. Then Carson is tricked out of winning a horse race by crooked gamblers who abduct Virginia. He chases them by jumping into a boat, swimming ashore, and leaping aboard a fast train. Jumping from the train into a moving automobile, he arrives at the hotel where Virginia is held captive. Here he pauses to rescue a family from a fire and then proceeds to save Virginia. In the mountains of West Virginia, Alderson Cree is mortally wounded in an ambush by Kip Ryerson, after Kip's wife, Martha, seeks refuge at the Crees's home for herself and her stepdaughter, Eileen. Cree makes his young son, David, promise to avenge his death once he has grown into manhood. As David Cree runs for help, Alderson recants and instructs Martha Ryerson to release his son from his promise. However, to eliminate her brutal spouse, Martha Ryerson remains silent, and George Hedrick, the local storekeeper, leads a crowd to drive Kip out of town. Hedrick later announces Kip's death, relieving David of his obligation to his father. Years pass, and David, now an adult, is engaged to Mary Reddin. When Kip Ryerson returns to town, David's mother demands that he keep his promise to avenge his father.
