Why do we often go to dinners we don't want to attend, to see friends who aren't really friends anymore? Out of habit? Out of kindness? Out of cowardice? Intoxicated by the idea of tidying up their schedules by sorting through their old friends, Pierre and Clotilde Lecoeur (played by ERIC ELMOSNINO and LYSIANE MEIS) decide to organize farewell dinners, the ultimate form of friendly divorce. However, by choosing - as their first victim - Antoine Royer (played by GUILLAUME DE TONQUÉDEC), their oldest friend, Pierre and Clotilde are unaware that they are getting caught up in a downward spiral.

Doctor Moulineaux, "serious and established" after a dissipated youth, lives a bourgeois life with his wife Yvonne and his servant Étienne. But he has gone to the Opera ball to win the heart of the elegant Suzanne Aubin. He arranges to meet her in a mezzanine that belonged to a seamstress. Impromptu visits from his acquaintances force him to pretend to be a tailor.

Vatelin and his wife Lucienne love tender love. Rédillon, a friend of the couple, has been courting Lucienne for years. John Rockefeller is completely overwhelmed by events: he must simultaneously face the perpetual attacks of "colorful" Indians , the multiple romantic imbroglios which are playing out within his home, the sudden crisis of dementia of his wife and finally the drunken wanderings of the local doctor, Doctor Butler, a man particularly given to drink.

This one-act play is followed by three other short stories: A Well-Typed Letter, A Pair of Slaps, The School for Lies. This series of sketches successively tells the story of a guy who thinks he's Napoleon (at least with his mistresses), a traveler struggling with a very enterprising typist, a slap orchestrated by a devilish trio, and a writer who gives two apprentice actresses a rather unusual audition.
