Paul Kurt, embittered and disillusioned by war, returns to Budapest and devotes his life to roistering and gambling. He falls in love with Anna Galambos but leaves her when he realizes his unworthiness. She returns to her father, a gamekeeper at the castle of Count Franz, a despotic bachelor whose brothers Lazlos and Michael covet his estate. Disheartened by her shattered romance, Anna accepts the proposal of Franz. The brothers conspire to hire Paul to compromise the girl, but Paul, discovering she is none other than the woman he loves, decides to win her for himself. Paul finally exposes the plot to Franz, and Anna, convinced of his sincerity, is reunited with him after Franz releases her.

Das Phantom der Oper was a 1916 silent film. The film, also known as Das Gespenst im Opernhaus, is notable for being the first film adaptation of the 1910 novel The Phantom of the Opera by Gaston Leroux. The film is now believed to be a lost film. No copies, photographs or even a poster of the film remain. All that is known is that it was made in Germany in autumn 1915, directed by Ernst Matray, starring Nils Chrisander as the Phantom and Aud Egede-Nissen as Christine, and Raul played by director Ernst Matray.[1]

Malatti's father has unexpectedly survived the fall from the train and now vows to take cruel revenge on McAllan. In Lhasa, the old capital of Tibet, seat of the Dalai Lama and at the same time a "forbidden city" for all foreigners, there is another dramatic encounter between the engineer and Badhama. In Calcutta, McAllan meets the beautiful Indian woman Malatti, with whom he immediately falls in love. The engineer quickly neglects his professional obligations and follows her. After some complications, the two of them finally get closer at her home, even if Malatti's father Badhama rejects this connection. Badhama only agrees to the planned marriage when he learns how wealthy this white man must be. After some time, McAllan returns to his large construction site, where things are going haywire. Many workers die in an explosion, and McAllan is now liable with his fortune. Countess Hedvig von Wärnfelt receives her orphaned niece Marianne to bring her up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord. Marianne is a spirited and vibrant young girl who is also an aspiring actress. The Countess is dismayed by her uneducated behavior and treats her severely.

Dr. Henry Arel and his fiancée, Violet Starford, join the war as paramedics. During a flight attack, Violet is badly hurt. The doctor makes a very bold intervention in the hope that Violet will survive.
