It all began as all stories begin, at the start. When I was younger, my mother would sit me on her lap, and tell me that, every day the manta rays would come out of the sea flying, by the hundreds!

This is a documentary about the moving and inspiring story of Manuel, a small coffee producer in the island of Sao Tome and Principe.

With her boyfriend arrested for drug dealing, Carla, 8 month pregnant, spends her days at the jail door. As the days go by, an unlikely relationship eventually emerges, putting everything in question.

Upon entering adulthood, a young woman recounts her days within a dysfunctional family; her fears, desires, and frustrations, which lead her on a relentless search for a peace that stubbornly refuses to come.

A man speaks to the onlookers intimate moments of his life, which will eventually unveil his true essence. Faced with this reality, he decides to make a decision.

1990 was the year the first letter was written. Through the writings of a broken woman, from this letter and the others that followed, the puzzle of a fragmented mind is built. Clinging to the memories that haunted and comforted her, she tries to rebuild her broken identity, confessing her most secret thoughts to the great loves that she has lost: her husband and her daughter.
