Body Double 36

Brice Dellsperger's reprise of Brian de Palma's Blood Sisters

With his Pinocchio Pipenose Household Dilemma, Paul McCarthy shows that interfaces don't always have to be a complicated business. Contact with the world of this American artist is established by dressing in red & yellow coveralls, enormous red plastic shoes and a mask with a long tube for a nose. Dressed in this low tech interface the audience can see on video how another Pinocchio - Paul McCarthy himself - covers himself in ketchup and chocolate paste.

A woman visits a psychiatrist, but she has a hidden agenda. Likewise, the therapist is not all that he appears to be; he listens to the analysand with concern but also with an underlying, almost sinister, sense of lust. The scene is from Brian De Palma’s Dressed to Kill, in which nothing is as it appears, and in which its protagonists role-play, play-act and dress-up. A perfect text, then, to serve as the template for Brice Dellsperger’s Body Double 37.
