Circus Movements

Five characters and the deadly sin of greed. A vicious cycle.

An artist decides to involve his audience in the making of his magnum opus: The Destruction of Art.

Torn between loyalty to her family, and her love for Jason, Medea attacks her father and flees with Jason to unknown lands. Her brother pursues them. When Jason betrays and abandons her, she is driven to the ultimate act of vengeful destruction.

A sad and restrained man lying on the bed in his empty room. Hesitates, ponder hypotheses in a cycle without deciding, stuck. In exhaustion all anguish equals. Another man is sitting at the window: he looks at him and to the street. Characters in broken situations. The key positions, the suspended sequences, are shown. The man almost decides - and they almost return, inside and out, to them and to the city, time and movement. Infinite dawn.

A cinematographic adaptation of the piece Poema, by the Portuguese thinker Tomás Maia. An audiovisual poiesis, “presented in a double movement, of flux and reflux, descending and ascending, in a veiled revisitation of the myth of Orpheus—but removing from the myth the male figure (and, therefore, any heroism) and transforming Eurydice into poetry itself, which, unlike the dead, rises above the underground” (from the piece’s original synopsis).
