The 50th Anniversary of the Elvis Comeback Special

Holiday special from 1978 featuring various Disney characters.

'68 Comeback Special: 50th Anniversary Edition is the definitive chronicle of the now legendary NBC-TV show Elvis. After years of making formulaic movies, Elvis was finally unleashed to perform live again on an intimate stage with his original sidemen, Scotty Moore and D.J. Fontana. Playing "That's All Right," "Heartbreak Hotel," "Lawdy Miss Clawdy," and many of his great hits, the sheer rawness and excitement of the performances attracted unanimous critical acclaim. Greil Marcus in his book Mystery Train said "If ever there was a music that could bleed, this was it." NBC-TV's Elvis is as raw and inspirational today as it was in 1968. This 50th Anniversary Edition includes all the known recordings from RCA's vault and all the videotaped performances are here for the first time on Blu-ray.

This romantic drama focuses on the romance between a 14-year-old mathematics genius and a 19-year-old All-American volleyball player.

After years of diminishing returns on the big screen, Elvis gets back to his roots on television, and turns in one of the greatest performances of his career.

By 1968, it had been more than seven years since he had appeared on stage on front of a live audience. In his first television special, clad in his now-iconic black leather suit, Elvis performed classic hits both on stage alone and, in sequences generally regarded as the forerunner of today's popular "unplugged" jam sessions, with friends and original bandmates. The program also included splashy production numbers. The original name of the program was "Elvis". Taped in June 1968 in Burbank, it first aired that December 3rd on NBC and was the network's biggest ratings victory that year as well as the season's top-rated show. It stands today as one of the great moments in rock music history and as a stunningly brilliant milestone in Elvis career. After this triumph Elvis poured renewed creative vigor into his recording work, wrapped up his movie contract obligations and returned full-time to the concert stage, beginning a new and exciting era of the Elvis phenomenon.

Join Barry "live" on-stage at Ravinia Music Festival in Chicago...and "live" on the streets of New York City with special guest star Penny Marshall. The special was broadcast to record-breaking ratings on ABC in 1977 when more than 34 million people tuned in to see Barry's first national TV showcase. At the 1977 Emmys, Manilow and the program won Outstanding Special - Comedy-Variety or Music.

A retelling of the Disney film, Beauty and the Beast (1991), on ice. This also included live singers from the Broadway stage show, and clips of the animated film.

Hailed by one music reviewer as "the grooviest, wildest, slickest hit ever to pound the screen," "The T.A.M.I. Show" is an unrelenting rock spectacular starring some of the greatest pop performers of the 60s. These top recording idols – representing the musical moods of London, Liverpool, Hollywood and Detroit – packed the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium with 2,600 screaming fans and virtually brought down the house. This is the cinematic record of that electrifying event.

Train wreck, some might call it a TV special, proving that not everything was better in the good old days. That includes Rolling Stone Magazine.

In 1968 Harry Belafonte and Petula Clark sang together her song On the Path Of Glory for this special on NBC. Not such a remarkable event in itself, but Petula touched Harry's forearm during the duet and made TV history. It was the first time a white woman had touched a black man on US television. The sponsor insisted the touch be cut from the programme, the programme makers refused. In the decade’s “year of revolt”, Clark found herself at the centre of a media controversy involving race, censorship and endemic bigotry in a newly desegregated yet depressingly divided US.

Soul diva Diana Ross shines in this 1992 concert filmed at New York's Ritz Theatre. Ross shared the specially made stage with nearly 20 accomplished jazz, big band and rhythm and blues maestros, enhancing her already dazzling talent. Together, they collaborate on versions of "Fine and Mellow," "Don't Explain," "Mean to Me," "All of Me" and many more. Also featured are interviews and a behind-the-scenes peek at the singing legend.

On July 21, 1983, the legendary Diana Ross took the stage in New York's Central Park before an audience of over 800,000. Soon after the entertainer began, pouring rain and heavy wind threatened to put an end to the show, but Diana pushed on for much of the set, urging the drenched crowd to remain calm and stay with her. Eventually the torrential storm put an end to the performance, but not before Diana promised her fans she would return the next day. True to her word, Diana performed the entire concert again on July 22nd for the people of New York.

Pee-wee Herman and pals are celebrating Christmas in the Playhouse in their own creative ways: Pee-wee makes a list for Santa Claus 1.5 miles long, teaches Little Richard how to ice skate, goes for a sleigh ride with Magic Johnson, enslaves Frankie Avalon and Annette Funicello into making Christmas cards, receives a long phone call from Dinah Shore, even has more musical fun with k.d. lang, the Del Rubio Triplettes and Charo!
