Calling of the Congress

A brother guides his younger sister through inner workings of their family business: embalming dead bodies.

A woman with depression struggles to connect with her chirpy and driven office colleagues but an encounter with a dying cockroach in the office toilet develops into an absurd friendship.

A mix of stop motion and live action, a young girl faces a creature and risks death in the desert to prove herself an adult in a rite of passage ritual.

Through the words of a grandmother, the memories of her sewing machine, the children’s songs, and the drawings on the wall, the filmmaker reenacts an ode where she becomes her child self and her grandmother at the same time. The foremothers’ songs and the colorful fabrics weave the stories of distance, longing, and loss.
