A Creak In Time

Within this intuitive interpretation of Pink Floyd's music, there are secrets, enigmas and metaphors. The narrative is open ended, therefore open to individual interpretation, along the lines of: In the parallel worlds of the past and the future, two tribes struggle to survive on a dying planet, while attempting to communicate with the life force of earth itself. As time runs out, a monolith approaches from outer space, carrying within it a puzzle which they fail to understand. Is it a warning, or does it contain the secret to the survival of mankind?

Taking inspiration from the haunting Japanese dance/performance art form Butoh, the film offers a cinematic interpretation of this singular style of expression. With high contrast, exaggerated grain, abstracted colors and flickering frames, A Monster with Its Mouth Agape captures the unsettling and chaotic climate of post-war Japan. Featuring a rare audio recording of Butoh master Yoshito Ohno.

An existential drama exploring the universal themes of death and rebirth. Tape Letters from the Waiting Room is an experiment in film archaeology and magnetic memory as it navigates past life experiences. Shifting in succession from the mundane to the metaphysical, the film is composed of extant 16mm found footage from the past century. An original soundtrack by Mark Vernon encompasses a rich collection of domestic tape recordings; audio letters, dictated notes, found sounds and other lost voices.
