The Mother

Devdas is a Bengali-language film based on the Sharat Chandra Chattopadhyay novel Devdas. It is the first Bangladeshi version of the story and the first colour film version in Bangladesh. It was the first of two versions directed by Chashi Nazrul Islam.

A story of Bangladesh’s liberation war of 1971. Where two doppelgängers encounter each other in the war camp. The film revolves around their friendship & journey after the war.

After the declaration of Bangladeshi independence, the war of liberation begins. West Pakistani troops detain Captain Asad and a soldier but Asad escapes from the local prison. West Pakistani troops searching for Asad arrive at his house with Razakar Daliluddin and snatch his sister's friend Rikta from his mother. Asad returns home and learns everything from his mother. Asad joins with Major Hassan and they conduct a military operation to liberate his village and rescue the tortured Rikta from West Pakistani troops. They win the battle. For nine months Asad fights with the freedom fighters and liberate Bangladesh from West Pakistan, undergoing for many hardships.

The drama is based on the Bangladesh Liberation War. Director Islam and lead actor Khasru were both members of Mukti Bahini. The movie is about the liberation war of Bangladesh in 1971. This historical movie talks about the sacrifices people had to make for the freedom of their country.

Shuvaa was named as Shuvashini (one who has melodious voice) but she grows as deaf and dumb. Her father married off her two elder sister Suhashini and Sukeshini with grant ceremony. Now its Shuvaa's turn. Shuvaa and Protap from the same village love and understand each other. Protap asked her father to marry her and her father comes to Protap's parents with marriage proposal. Govinda Goswami refuses the proposal and insults him. Being refused and insulted, Banikonto leaves the village with his daughter and wife to his eldest daughter's house to marry off Shuvaa. Soon after her marriage, her husband Nibaron learns Shuvaa's condition that brings misery for her.
