One and a Half

A young rebel falls for the sister of a local kickboxing champion. In order to stay out of jail, he is advised by his parole officer to begin training in the art of kickboxing. His romance with the girl blossoms but comes to a crashing halt when he is forced to face her brother in the ring. When the brother is accidentally killed, the romance ends and the young kickboxer participates in illegal street fights. In his self-directed piece "Black Umbrella," Teddy Robin makes solving conflicts on the street at night his mission and marks each closed case with his signature black umbrella. Before he calls it a day, he meets a prostitute who forcefully pulls him upstairs for business and unfortunately things spiral out of control.

This is a screwball-comedy in Hong Kong style. Chow Yun Fat plays the spoiled village hetman of a tiny village in Hong Kong. The plot revolves around his love interest who has run off to work in downtown Hong Kong and many culture clashes between the peasants and urban life are highlighted.
