Following an operation, Annie no longer remembers her eleven years of marriage or her children. Her memory stops at the time when she was being courted by Pierre, now the family friend. Unable to bear seeing his wife in love with someone else, her husband tries to restore her memory.

Montmartre in the summertime. One day, Pierrot, a member of the gang, gets run down by a cyclist and becomes blind.

The young people, passionate and eager to become comedians, clash in tumultuous love affairs, because by dint of acting, they imagine that life is a farce. François, for example, is in love with Isabelle, who also loves him, but is pursued by Cecilia, his former mistress... "Put art in your life and life in your art!"

In 1935, in the Burgundian village of Valromey, Commissioner Desbordes was the very unpopular leader of the anti-alcoholic league.
