Round of Hours

This film follows Jean, a young French soldier who is physically and mentally scarred by his experiences on the front lines. He struggles to readjust to civilian life, and his family soon realizes the extent of his trauma. Jean's childhood sweetheart, Madeleine, is now married to his friend and fellow soldier, Pierre. Jean's family fears he will succumb to his despair, and they desperately search for ways to help him find peace.

A singer who has become voiceless is forced to leave his wife and children. He will become famous again as a clown.

A wealthy financier fatally wounds himself while handling a dagger. Before dying, he leaves a private letter to his lawyer accusing his wife. It is the financier's son who becomes the suspect. In love with the young woman, the lawyer is torn between duty and love.

Georges is a lover of women, of all women, without exception. One fine day, a young girl like no other, a savage, will come into his life. Will Georges fall in love and experience the joys of marriage despite his love of women?

The film shows the seizure of power by the Nazis and Hitler wants a trial, at a time when France has just declared war on Germany (Sept. 3, 1939). Hybrid composition, it alternates originals and reconstructions performed by actors (docudrama). A not-so-subtle condemnation of Hitler, Nazism and Germany by the movie's French film makers, which conveniently makes no mention of how the policies of Great Britain and France created Hitler and allowed him to go as far as he did prior to the beginning of the Second World War.
