Wong's no-budget indie (dreamt up in a night, shot in a week) tells four distinct stories which intersect in the manner of Mystery Train. They range from character-based comedy (a young couple nervously venture into a 'love hotel' for the first time) to Grand Guignol melodrama (a Filipina maid seeks revenge on her two-timing lover - the actress being the director's mother's real-life maid).

The main characters are two male best friends, Jerry and Hui Lok, and their female friend, Cherie. The story revolves around their relationships with others, including Jenny and Kei Kei, and each other. Jerry, Cherrie, and Lok are a pop trio, and the boys have agreed not to court Cherrie for the good of the group. Jerry's a feckless playboy, but he falls hard for the beautiful and talented Fonfong; she becomes his roommate as Cherrie looks on. Lok has two women in his life, the young and innocent Man-Yi, and Rachel, a mysterious minx into bondage and sexual excess. Things come to a head when Fonfong has a chance to study in Paris and Rachel takes things a bit far with Lok. It's time for Jerry and Lok to look around: is true love closer at hand? And what about Cherrie, who's been bruised often by Jerry: what will she decide?

After successfully designing the perfect bra, Lena, Johnny and Wayne are ordered to come up with a marketing plan for the "Mighty Baby" line of baby care products. Johnny's life is complicated when he hires quirky secretary Sabrina. As for Lena and Wayne, their relationship is threatened when Lena discovers that Wayne is afraid of babies. To help Wayne overcome his fear, Lena hires child expert Boey. Unfortunately for Lena, Wayne starts to develop feelings for Boey.

This movie goes through 12 significant nights (not consecutive nights) in a relationship between two characters. The movie offers some insight into the repetion involved in relationship cycles from interest through various tensions to eventual disinterest.

Music is the common language that draws people together. Johann Bach’s Goldberg Variations brings the two lonely and unrelated people in the film - an inconspicuous mid-aged man Joe and a once popular actress Shu closer.
