A man and a woman meet in the ruins of post-war Poland. With vastly different backgrounds and temperaments, they are fatally mismatched and yet drawn to each other.

A cross-country trip turns out to be a nightmare for a troubled couple.

A philosophy teacher restless with the need to do something with his life meets a young woman suspected of driving an artist to his death.
