The Lullaby Killer

A historical story about a young woman, Matilda, who in the politically difficult times of the partitions after the January Uprising becomes a pawn of landed gentry intrigues. Her past, which is also a mystery to herself, is overshadowed by the political decisions of both Polish patriots and traitors plotting with the Russian invaders. In addition to its educational and historical value, the series contains rich thriller and love plots.

Warsaw, 1909. Arthur Herling makes an assassination attempt on a Russian police official and his family. During the action, the officer's daughter is killed and his wife is maimed. The wounded militant is arrested. Tormented by remorse, Herling agrees to cooperate with the tsarist authorities as a provocateur. Into his cell comes Adam Tanski, suspected of having contacts with the wanted conspirator Andrzej Woyda. One day, while being transported in a prison ambulance, Herling kills the guards. Accompanying him, Adam urges him to escape to the mountains.

Students protesting against the illegal expulsion of their colleagues from university and in defence of play Dziady, directed by Kazimierz Dejmek and performed at the National Theatre, which has been taken off the bill. A story of the love between a father who is losing his eyesight and his seven-year-old son who learns to become his father’s guide and his eyes. What the son sees for the first time, the father is most likely seeing for the last. Their unique relationship illustrates the saying that love is invisible to the eye.

When in 2002 Jedynka presented Krzysztof Lang's TV series "Prawdziwe psy" about the work of police officers from the Capital Police Station, Commissioner Slawomir Opala and Assistant Commissioner Krzysztof Tkaczyk were among the characters in the series. At the time, both were distinguished officers of the Homicide Department with about 10 years of experience. Within a few months of the end of shooting, dramatic changes occurred in their professional and private lives, and both found themselves at a crossroads in life. Convinced that these changes were related to the series, Krzysztof Lang decided to return to his characters to complete the plot devoted to them. The film is thus a kind of epilogue to that series, and at the same time a psychological portrait of the two operational officers. It shows what a great psychological price one pays for practicing this specific profession, if one wants to do it with integrity.
