The Angry Toy

A wealthy man asks for the hand of his best friend's daughter, a young woman. As the woman is in love with a man her own age, they hatch a plan to make him look like a bad luck charm and thus convince the father to break off the engagement.

This documentary deconstructs the life of my father, Carlos Ragone, based on his work as a photographer and photojournalist: father and daughter, photographs and audiovisuals, memory and imagination intertwine.

A photographer shoots a documentary film in a small town in Argentina (Uribelarrea) about the filming that a foreign producer is doing on the spot.

Set around 1910 in the Chaco region, the film depicts the plight of quebracho woodcutters, cruelly exploited by English businessmen with the support of the authorities, local police, and a paramilitary force established by the employers themselves.

The film tells the story of a real life fan of Boca Juniors football club, Mary Esher Duffau, who as a teenage girl adopted the identity of a man in order to survive on the streets of Buenos Aires. The film shows the teenage Raulito wandering between a reformatory for juvenile offenders, prison and psychiatric hospital. Raulito manages to escape, and finds work at Constitución railway station in Barrio Constitución. Raulito meets up with another street child and they become close friends. They both eventually manage to escape to Mar del Plata.

A woman's voice says she was wife to Renzo Franchi and Carlos Gardel (1890-1935), Argentina's great tango singer. People say she's crazy. Her story unfolds. Buenos Aires, 1933: Juana Romero, a seamstress who lives for the music of Gardel, dumps her boyfriend Gustavo for Renzo, a singer who looks like Gardel. She insists that his trio performs Gardel's tangos, which leads to Renzo recording a Ford commercial when Gardel himself is overbooked. The trio, with Joanna in tow, goes on an ill-fated tour of points north. The couple breaks up: she goes home and he tries to get to New York. Fate steps in, and once again he's called upon to pose as Gardel. Then, legend and a bracelet take over. Written by
