Life and Death of an Architect

José Corbacho and Catalina Solivellas met thirty years ago sharing stages, dressing rooms, laughter and also some sadness. They they began to be aware of how therapeutic theater can be in difficult times. Years later, and inspired by Don Quixote, they decided to put together a free version of the chivalric novel, together with Mallorcan amateur actors and actresses with a mental health diagnosis. The documentary proposes a journey in which José, Catalina and the wonderful company created for the occasion, share stages, dressing rooms, laughter and also some tears.

Palma de Mallorca, Spain. The workers of Cine Ciutat, a cooperative cinema that screens auteur films in original version, struggle to keep the business open, despite their own psychological exhaustion, economic difficulties, lack of spectators and aging equipment.

An enterprising real estate agent peddles an extravagant development, while a young gay man drifts without any plans beyond robbing a tourist for kicks. Julia is my mother. She's worked as a hairdresser all her life, but she's retired now. She spends her weekdays cooking and styling her friends' hair; but her greatest dream is taking care of her grandson, my son. He comes to visit us once a week and stays overnight. The morning after one of those nights, my mother tells me she thinks she's had a stroke. I don't know what to say; I hug her. Two weeks later, we shot this film.
