The Song of Scorpions

During the 1947 partition of Bengal, a man and a woman cross a river to begin life anew. Their journey manifests many roles against the backdrop of some horrific events and loss of life.

Myshkin, an epileptic man, eturns from medical treatment abroad and finds himself in love with Nastasia. There are twists and turns as Myshkin gets engaged to another woman, only to have an epileptic seizure. He and Nastasia are betrothed but on the wedding day, she returns to her rich pursuer Pawan, who kills her. As both men wait together for the police, Myshkin descends into insanity.

A music student listens to stories and legends about the birth and evolution of the Khayal form of classical Indian singing. These stories are re-enacted by actors who play several key figures throughout the history of classical music.

Set in post-colonial India, Qissa tells the story of Umber Singh, a Sikh who is forced to flee his village due to ethnic cleansing at the time of partition in 1947. Umber decides to fight fate and builds a new home for his family. When Umber marries his youngest child Kanwar to Neeli, a girl of lower caste, the family is faced with the truth of their identities; as individual ambitions and destinies collide in a struggle with eternity.
