Aiko Satō, who has won many literary awards, retired from her life as a writer and had no guests. She spent a gloomy time, but then a middle-aged editor named Tachibana came with a commission for a story. The story begins with a series of essays that are initially unpleasant, writing out her anger towards society. Aiko's life will undergo significant changes by the time she is 90 years old.

Kazuya Uemura is an American veterinarian who has just arrived at the Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium. Uemura was busy working as a keeper, even though he was a veterinarian, based on the director's policy of learning about dolphins while doing work as a zookeeper, such as feeding and cleaning the pool. At the end of his busy summer vacation and his work was over, something unusual happened to Fuji, the mother dolphin who gave birth to three children. Her tail was damaged from necrosis. Medicine couldn't help her condition, otherwise, Fuji would die. Uemura decided to amputate Fuji's tail fins. Fuji managed to survive the amputation but was unable to swim. The granddaughter of the director, Michiru, sees Fuji could no longer swim and says to Uemura, "A dolphin that can't swim is not a dolphin." Uemura stood up: "I want Fuji to swim again, I want Fuji to soar in the air." The world's first dolphin tail recovery project has begun.

A community is shocked when the bodies of an elderly man and the manager of a home-visit nursing centre are found. The passing of 42 elderly patients is connected to Shiba, a caretaker recognised for his affection and dedication.

High school student Naotatsu travels to live at his uncle's house. In the pouring rain, he is picked up at the nearest station by a strange adult woman named Sakaki who guides him to an unexpected share house where a life together begins.

A man is immobile and incapacitated, but has professional and nonprofessional volunteers serve and help him. Though, he takes full advantage of the situation and uses and abuses the volunteer crew.

Kenta Kurihara (Tasuku Nagaoka) is sent to prison for battery. In his cell he is referred to as the "newcomer." Meanwhile, Kenta is bummed out with simple meal offerred in prison. The four other prisoners in his jail cell have no problems eating his food. On lunar new year's day the prison offers the traditional Osechi-Ryori dish. The inmates in the cell gather to play a game that has become an annual ritual. They compete for items from each other's dishes by boating about the most delicious things they have ever eaten. Shunsuke Aida (Motoki Ochiai) begins their game by talking about a dish which his mother made ...

One morning Hikaru Hino, a high school student living in Hakodate, wakes up to find she has grown a tail. She quickly cancels her first date with classmate Hayato, complicating their relationship. Hikaru's sister makes a fake tail to cheer her up and takes her out around town together, but a reporter captures their photo which leads to a huge commotion in Hakodate. As the tale commotion reaches a fever pitch, another person with a tail, Mr. Yoshida, shows up. As a result, the commotion grows into a full-blown incident that involves the whole of Hakodate.

On the night of Mikihiko's 18th birthday, Mikihiko thinks of childhood friend Morio. Morio has been in vegetative state since the age of 6 after being involved in an accident.One day, Moria awakens from his vegetative state. Morio still has the mind of a 6-year-old.

Atsuko and Akira are a husband and wife duo with a daughter and a son. Atsuko is in charge of the retirement finances. She saves from money given to her by her husband and also earns money herself by working part-time. She stretches every yen by leading a frugal life. yet, expenses come up. With the promise made to their deceased father in his heart, the older brother, Toshiki, has continued to protect his younger sister, Fumiko. Now that Fumiko is getting married, the burden he carried should have finally been lifted, but a long-buried "secret" of Fumiko has resurfaced.
