Áramótaskaup: 2013 is an annual Icelandic TV movie satirizing the events of the past year.

A remote fishing village in Iceland. Teenage boys Thór and Kristján experience a turbulent summer as one tries to win the heart of a girl while the other discovers new feelings toward his best friend. When summer ends and the harsh nature of Iceland takes back its rights, it's time to leave the playground and face adulthood.

The crew on board the fishing vessel Undercurrent RE 29 has become uncomfortably numb with its never ending routine of week long tours at sea. Katrin Rose returns from Sweden where she has lived for eight years. In Iceland Katrin has an eleven-year-old son, brought up by his grandmother and now Katrin wants him back. Katrin gets a job as a dentist's assistant intending to make a fresh start but her troubled past catches up with her.

Crime writer Solveig Karlsdottir is pretty successful - although that's not particularly easy in Iceland. After all, with only two murders a year in the entire country, there aren't many sources of inspiration, but she makes up for this with a lot of imagination and her special feeling for things that aren't quite right. And this feeling kicks in strongly when she travels from Reykjavik to her old home village to look after her mother Margret, who is suffering from dementia. When an old friend from her youth is found dead at the harbor, she doesn't believe the official conclusion that it was an accident.
