Everything Turns...

Amidst the frantic flurry of moving day, a film. Shirking our responsibilities until the bitter end, this bittersweet and fond farewell to an apartment well-lived and a job well-done. Caretakers of the Year. Shot in a single take on Super 8.

We live with stories. And it's hard for us to give up on these stories, which provide us our identity, a way of understanding ourselves. Reflections from three successive generations are dusted off and presented as remaining fragments. An attempt to archive thoughts on familial history, narrative traditions, human perception and "the story" from known and unknown sources. "There is history behind it and the history becomes the story and the story becomes the pattern and the pattern becomes rigidity."

"I never dreamt that I'd be selling cars when I started it. It just gradually happened... I guess I never thought of anything else." A short film I made because filmmaking can still be something you do in a day that's fun and honest and simple and for someone you love. For George. - AZ

As two growing years pass, Don Zeghers - farmer from Holland, Manitoba - phases out his multi-generational family farm. With experimental photography on Super 8, 16mm and digital mediums, his son Aaron Zeghers follows this life change. The dissolution of the family farm is seen both intimately but also as a microcosm of the modern industrialized world. Nature is contrasted with industrial might in this sentimental and existential portrait of one's own family.
