L'Histoire d'une mère

Pierrot, a young boy, does not live in the present. One night, Pierrot finds himself face to face with the old man that he will be himself. A strange journey then begins for the unlikely duo.

In 2019, the director Leos Carax proposes to Estelle Charlier and Romuald Collinet to design, make and animate "Annette", the puppet of his new film. This one will be the child of the couple Marion Cotillard and Adam Driver. Propelled into the world of cinema, begins for this charismatic duo a unique and singular adventure in their career as puppeteers. Faced with the demands of the filmmaker, the impossible, they are held.

A woman and her seven children live on a farm in Southern France. In spite of the hard work and the mediocre accommodation, their life would be a happy one, but for one person: the owner of the farm, an egotistic and authoritarian individual who is also the lover of the woman and the father of all her children. The farmer handles them as his property, uses them as cheap labour to work in the fields, and denies them the right to leave the farm. It is only the love of the woman for her children that allows them to endure their situation; but even for her, disenchantment has set in.

Carole, his partner and part-time yoga teacher, enthusiastically welcomes this change. So they leave the city for the countryside. Thrilled to embark on this new adventure, the couple moves into the part of the farmhouse that belongs to Luc, paying little attention to the adjoining part inherited by his brother!

Monique, happy and about sixty, is at the head of a small meeting agency, specializing in the third age. With Marthe in a psychiatric hospital, Reymond is left to take care of Lise alone whilst struggling to make a living selling second hand clothes in an open-air market. When Marthe leaves hospital, Reymond takes her and Lise to a holiday home in the country. But Martha’s illness is far from cured…
