A 23 year old boy learns how to see again after he has been blind for nearly 20 years. He does however continue to see images of his mother flashing by.

Claude and Pierre are brother and sister yet it is apparent early on that they are physically attracted to each other. In order to suborn their feelings they enter into relationships with others but nothing they do seems to work - they are always drawn back to their same fatal attraction.

Passages from the Bible are read out while sculpted objects and monumental art works glide slowly past the camera. Most of them represent female figures in different stages of their life: women at work, pregnant women and mothers with children. The film shows a series of everyday objects such as headrests, chairs, combs, pipes, musical instruments and chiefs' sticks
