A Great Love

Set in the period between the two world wars in a seaside village in the bay of Amvrakikos. Two children, Petros (8 years old) and Anthoula (7 years old) spend their summer holidays. During a walk they discover in an isolated shack a boy who lives with his mother. He is rejected by the community because of tuberculosis. Petros and Anthoula become friends with the boy. They encounter the cruelty of the adults and they decide to resist.

The strict and formal director Lila Vassiliou has under her orders all the staff of the technical office of which she takes over the management, but at the same time, she is looking to find ways of charm to conquer the lively sub-engineer Alekos Samiotakis.

Jenny Skoutari, a student and the daughter of a party local commander Kosmas Skoutaris, gets use to visit the private library of - her father's political rival - the shipowner Miltos Kassandris. Kassandris prepares his nephew - and a childhood friend of Jenny - Nikos Mantas, as a candidate for the next election. Mantas' rival has a lead, and is backed by Skoutaris, who is facing financial problems. So Kassandris decides to force Jenny to marry his nephew with a fake marriage, while at the same time financially breaks down her father in order to secure the election of his nephew. This marriage, however, will lead to unexpected situations between the couple..

This film is a social comment of the times, exploring issues that centre around relationships and what was allowed and what was not allowed at the time (early 60s) in Greece. There are sub-plots also, mainly relating to the life of the poor city dwellers, social injustice and seeming double standards. Aliki Vougiouklaki is a poor young girl dreaming of a better life and the "handsome prince on a white stallion" who will deliver her from her miserable existence. She meets and falls in love with a young man (Nikos Kourkoulos) who also falls in love with her, but things are not as simple as they first seem. His past comes to haunt them with tragic consequences. Vassilis Diamantopoulos is excellent as the half-crazed old captain whose life strangely echoes that of young Aliki.

In the orderly and happy life of a married woman, an old lover reappears and disrupts her peace of mind. His reappearance threatens her family peace and her relationship with her husband, a relationship that is being tested irreparably.

An old chauffeur, after removing his rambling son, decides to live with his orphaned girl while facing the advent of the car that displaces the carts.

After his business' bankrupcy, Giorgos Alexiou decides to commit suicide. Rosa, his cousin's wife who stand to benefit form his death, hires a private detective to keep an eye on him in case he changes his mind. Minas, Giorgos' employee, becomes Giorgos' guardian angel preventing the suicide at the last minute.

A young student (Alekos Alexandrakis) comes from Italy and presents to his sister (Katerina Gioulaki) the fiancée (Maro Kondou) as Italian, because the first insisted not to marry a Greek. The couple, however, in cooperation with the afflicted spouse (Giannis Vogiatzis) strict sister, managed to change the opinion.

Madalena is a tough seventeen-year-old who is forced to take on her father's ferry business after he dies. She has her many brothers and sisters to support, and there is no one else to do the job. So she rallies her defenses and sets out to give her rival in the ferry business a run for his money. But at the same time, the rival's handsome son is starting to look better and better. Madalena refuses to acknowledge her feelings for him -- though how long she can sustain that denial is the question.

Fourtounakis’ daughter, Katerinio, is forced to get engaged with a brutal Cretan, Skandalakis. But the return of Manousos Vrontakis from Athens and his flirtation with the girl leads to a great romance, without them knowing that they belong to families who are longstanding enemies.

A parliamentary candidate and his mistress will spend the night at the police station. After all, no one is above the law, no matter what his credentials or social status may appear to be.

A formerly heroic air force pilot, now an alcoholic loser with a failed marriage, is appointed by his older brother in the Ministry of Commerce to investigate a tragic plane crash that killed 28 people. As he goes through the motions in an alcoholic daze, he gradually comes to realize that the wreck was due to criminal negligence and failure to follow mandatory safety regulations.

A young woman asks from a ship magnate to help her immigrate to Australia but he falls in love with her.

Following the torpedoing of the destroyer Elli on August 15, 1940 on Tinos by an Italian submarine, war was declared, and the Italians attacked the Albanian front on October 28. From an outpost on the Greek-Albanian border, a military truck unexpectedly comes under fire by Italian tanks. Petros, the only one who manages to escape death or captivity, saves a village girl, Maria. However, the Greeks manage to recapture the machine-gun nest, setting free the soldiers who had been pinned down. The platoon in question puts up a hard fight against the Italian invaders, while, at the same time, the Greek army is preparing for a counter-attack, which doesn't take long to happen. Right after, the Italians are forced to fall back; Northern Epirus is recaptured, and the army of the Badoglio is repulsed from the Adriatic.

1940. Anna stay alone, her husband her brother her father leave for the war with the Italians. The attack of the Germans will give a hard blow to her family. She will continue to fight, approaching the German commander of the area.
