By chance, Lenny, a young children's book author, discovers a roll of film in an old camera. Curious, he has it developed and is astonished to find that the pictures must have been taken in Prague in 1968, towards the end of the Prague Spring. One of the photos shows a young woman. To find out more about her, Lenny publishes it in a Prague daily newspaper. The effect is disastrous: his family's house is broken into and his father is murdered. Lenny is certain that there is a connection, because the photos have also disappeared. But neither his sister Isabell nor the police believe him. Shortly afterwards, he receives an anonymous letter containing only a Prague address. With this vague clue, Lenny sets off for the Czech capital.

It's been a year since Moritz Wagner and his daughter Aluna turned their backs on Kenya and moved to Hamburg. They searched in vain for Farrah, Moritz's wife and Aluna's mother. Moritz's strenuous, sometimes traumatic job as a war photographer had put a lot of strain on their marriage. Farrah took some time off and disappeared without a trace. Together with Caroline, a shirt-sleeved used car saleswoman and good friend of Farrah, Moritz sets out to find the secret behind Farrah's death. The trail leads them both to the Congo.

The company policy provides as a guideline to prevent the approval as far as possible. When the widow of a victim, who committed suicide after being rejected, storms the office to loudly accuse these machinations, Franziska begins to doubt the correctness of her work and to rethink. She quits and works as a freelance lawyer to help injured parties legally to get their rights. First she deals with the case of a family in the neighborhood. The father has been in a wheelchair since an accident. However, the Strelaus have not yet seen any money from the insurance company. Initially not taken seriously by colleagues, the shy woman takes on the fight against the health insurance system and has to fight against resistance and above all with her own self-doubt.

In the year 2030, young journalist Lena Bach witnesses a crime. A desperate pensioner takes the CEO of the wellness company "Prolife" hostage and tries to force him to confess. Just as the manager starts to talk, there is an explosion. Darow has allegedly detonated a hand grenade. The hostage-taker and his victim are killed and the bodies are immediately removed by special units of the German army. Then Lena meets an informant who has promised her important details of Darow's life via videophone in an illegal Berlin backyard hospital. She now knows: The hand grenade Darow was carrying was a plastic dummy. What really happened in the office of the CEO of "Prolife"?

In Berlin in the year 2030, young Tim Burdenski is found seriously injured on the Gendarmenmarkt. Following an emergency call from a cab driver, he is taken to hospital but dies despite a delayed emergency operation. Journalist Lena Bach begins to investigate, as the 30-year-old is one of ten so-called "millennium children" who have been followed by a television team in a long-term documentary since his birth on January 1, 2000. All of them come from the middle class.
