The Hell of '63

It is 1943. Jelle is a simple fisherman. He is arrested by the Germans because his son, who is in the resistance, was caught during a weapons drop. It is only during his interrogation that he discovers what has happened to his son.

Before the old Andreas Heydecoper wants to commit suicide, he calls all his children and grandchildren to his home in Curaçao. He wants to see his family for the last time. When Andreas has died, his children and grandchildren burn him. But they find out that Andreas wasn't loved by everyone... And when they visit the notary to get their part of the heritage, the notary says they can't. Before they will get the heritage, Andreas's will says they have to find the 'Vuurmeisje'.

In the year 2000, a jury convenes in Friesland to elect the Sportsman of the Century. One man, Sake Wiarda, tries to convince his fellow-jury members not to nominate a sports hero like Abe Lenstra, but to give preference to the Frisian pole-squatter Taeke Jongsma. In flashbacks, Wiarda tells his audience the life story of this worker's son, who since childhood tries to escape the oppression of the working class in the thirties. Taeke finds out he is a splendid pole-squatter, but his record attempts are repeatedly thwarted by his great rival in love. Against the background of the historical changes in the previous century, the love story gradually unfolds between the pole-squatter and the farmer's daughter.

Twin brothers Sietse and Hielke watch their beloved boat being seized due to pollution. Meanwhile multiple animals are found dead at a care farm. The twins start a search for the suspects.

Old farmhand Bauke gets him a (German!) shepherd puppy, even grumpy Tjerp can't resist their instant bond. As Tjerp feared, the boy takes grave risks wanting to revenge his parents on the German occupation garrison. Finding Dutch RAF gunner Haaksma starts a series of dangerous adventures...

Two young boy twins receive a boat of their own by a stroke of luck. It turns out to be very fast and they use their boat to help out their friends.

Bouke tells Tom and Mirjam about the legend of "Flying Volckert" who used to harass everyone in the village in the past. Together with their dog Snuf, Tom and Mirjam decide to investigate the story. Near the swamp they encounter gamekeeper Grevendonk who's caught in a bear trap and swears it was Flying Volckert. When inexplicable things start happening in the village, the village people decide to take matters into their own hands and together with the local police they start looking in the swamp.

Hajo wants nothing more than to join captain Bontekoe’s crew. His mother, who lost her husband at sea, does everything she can to keep him ashore, but the call of the sea is too strong. Together with Padde and Rolf, he sets sail for the East.
