1993. A passenger train from Belgrade to Bar is stopped by paramilitary forces in an ethnic cleansing operation. As they haul off innocent civilians, only one man dares to stand up to them. This is the true story of a man who could not remain silent.

It is 1995. The summer when the war operation Storm will take place. Boro, who is going to be forty in a year and a half, with his wife Jasna and son Luka goes to his home village Drinovci, Herzegovina, after seven years. He wants to see his brother who managed to leave Sarajevo with his family. Boro knew that his brother was wounded, but when he sees him after many years, he discovers that the brother will spend the rest of his life in wheel chair. Boro constantly fights with Jasna, and he doesn't speak at all to his father Pako, whom he blames for his mother's death. In two weeks in August 1995, Boro will solve the years long dispute with his father, he will learn to be a better husband and a father.

Life Is a Trumpet has a loose jazz musician as the groom, a butcher as his father, and two families of different backgrounds whose members are not as different as one might expect.

Filip and Livija are son and mother. When, at the urging of Livija's younger boyfriend Roko, they steal the dog of the famous Croatian singer Severina, a long-kept secret of Filip's comes to light, prompting Livija to reconsider the way she raised him.

Vigo lives a life he hates. He spends all day slaving away at a warehouse, having to put up with impossible demands from his higher ups and colleagues he hates. When the workday is finally over, he has to pay the bills, deal with increasing debts and provide a somewhat normal life for his younger sister and his girlfriend, the relationship with which grows more strained and opressive as time goes on. Things change when he meets Marija, a high society college student, with whom he starts a whirlwind romance with, gaining a whole new world of possibilities in the process. But, as time goes on, his facade begins to slip away and Vigo is forced to get into increasingly deeper criminal waters to sustain his image.

Besides presenting a history of the Medveščak Zagreb Ice Hockey Club, the film includes recollections of its crucial individuals, past and present, and tries to explain the phenomenon of its popularity, including the unique spirit of Medveščak fans.
