La Ronde

While at work, Robin, a French immigrant pilot, receives a phone call that sends shock waves through his soul. Unseen by others, turmoil seeps into his inner world and echoes in his daily life. He will have to let this pain in, but not now. An impressionistic depiction of an all-but-ordinary day, The near future takes us to the poetic boundary between droning engines and complete silence, aerial and terrestrial, pastoral and urban, man and machine, life and death.

When night falls, three characters from different generations reveal their innermost secrets. Recognized for her short films (Le futur proche, La ronde), Sophie Goyette scrupulously chronicles the quest of three protagonists who have reached a turning point in their personal journey. For her first feature, she delivers a meditative work steeped in the universal questions of human nature.

The Seven Last Words sounds out the experiential states and rituals particular to humanity, based on seven themes expressed in an oratorio: forgiveness, hope, relation, abandonment, distress, triumph, and life after the death.
