The Fable of the Jolly Rounders

A Terrytoons cartoon released 6 March 1936.

A group of anthropomorphic animals are having fun in the snow, and steal Farmer Al Falfa's door. After fighting with his water pump and later his hand, Al Falfa wakes up from a drunken dream and has trouble getting inside his house. The animals invite the farmer to have fun with them.

The boys are trying to hitch a ride with no luck. They see a car parked in front of a bank with the door open. They jump in against the driver's will, and a bank tobber runs out and jumps into his escape car, too. The boys get more of a ride than they wanted.

In a little village in a far-away mythical country lives an old cobble and his dog. The old man can no longer make good shoes and they have fallen upon hard times until, one night, the dog hears noise in the workshop. He finds a band of merry elves making a beautiful pair of shoes. The cobbler believes his dog made them and spreads the news. The King hears about it and orders the cobble to have the dog make 500 pairs of shoes, as the King is as fond of shoes as a former first lady of the Philippines was. The elves come to the rescue, make the shoes, and the shoe-loving King is highly pleased and makes the old cobbler a rich man.

Heckle and Jeckle see a seemingly helpless baby bird (who keeps saying he is only three years old) in danger as a cat is trying to capture it.

The Little King wants a wife, so his Court Hypnonist, using foul means for a devious purpose, brings him Sweet Suzette, who has no interest in marrying the King. Mighty Mouse rescues yet again a damsel-in-distress, and sees to it that no wedding bells ring for Sweet Suzette.

Heckle and Jeckle, wearing pith helmets, are riding their flying carpet over Egypt. They come in for a landing near a likely pyramid, and decide to investigate.

Rip Van Winkle, a lazy American man, wanders off one day with his dog Wolf into the Kaatskill mountains where he runs into an odd group of men drinking and playing bowls. He drinks some of their mysterious brew and passes out. When he wakes up under a tree he is astonished to find that 20 years have passed and things are a lot different. This is a charming story about how America changed due to the cival war, only in a different and more subtle way than ever told before.

Terrytoons make a modern variation of Red Riding Hood.

Dimwit the hound is going fishing. Heckle and Jeckle are roommates in this one, sharing a single large birdhouse. They taunt Dimwit for no particular reason, then try to steal his catch of fish.

Mice sold into slavery and driven to pick cotton by whip-cracking cats plot their escape to freedom.

We see a house cat next to an unoccupied birdcage as he pulls a canary feather out of his mouth. Hmm, I wonder what happened? Now he hangs up a sign: 'Songbirds Wanted'.

A villainous sultan (a cat) captures a female mouse who must then be rescued by the hero, Milton Mouse. Produced by Terrytoons.
