Renee Fleming: Sacred Songs

At the close of the 74th ARD International Music Competition, the best clarinetists, trumpeters, and pianists perform at the winners' concert. They are accompanied by one of the world's most renowned ensembles: the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Sasha Scolnik-Brower.

Violinist Michael Barenboim and cellist Kian Soltani are the soloists at this year's concert of the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra in Salzburg. The programme includes the Double Concerto for Violin and Violoncello in A minor op. 102 which was Johannes Brahms final orchestral work composed in 1887.

Under the baton of Jordi Savall, the Concert des Nations orchestra and La Capella Nacional de Catalunya choir perform Mozart's Requiem on period instruments in the great hall of the MOZARTEUM foundation in Salzburg.

The 250th anniversary of George Frideric Handel’s death takes place on April 14th, 2009. This outstanding British-German performance in Handel’s baptistery, the Market Church in Halle, represents the media highlight of the Handel Year.

In Anton Bruckner’s 7th Symphony, the listener encounters a music characterized by great spaciousness and profound solemnity, a music which speaks of grief and lamentation, but also of their transcendence. With its monumental architecture and intensity of sound, the symphony has moved listeners ever since its triumphal premiere in 1884.
