Someone Down There Likes Me

Passionate Emma and impulsive but introverted Tomáš fall in love. They are like two missing puzzle pieces coming together. But Emma's pornographic past inevitably catches up with them.

Young drug addict Martin is forced by his father to stop taking drugs. While he struggles with his addiction, there is a serial killer in the town, brutally massacring all drug addicts with axe. The only solution for Martin, how not to get murdered, is a total detoxification.

This contemporary story deals with the relationship between two brothers, which fell apart catastrophically twenty years ago and has still not been repaired. Karel is a successful businessman in a small Czech town, while Emil has prison tattoos, works as a day laborer, and drifts from one hostel to another. He apparently has a child somewhere, but only sends child support. Karel has a loving family, but his wife and two teenage children have no idea what happened between the brothers years ago; the children don't even know about Emil's existence. Karel needs Emil's help, so Emil spends several days at Karel's house. As far as brotherly help is concerned, the situation, as we learn from flashbacks, is complicated and may never be resolved, but Emil becomes close to Karel's family, discovers what he has been missing all his life, and comes forward to his daughter himself.

A father and son have nothing in common except a first name, Richard, and an apartment on a housing estate. The burly, good-natured, 30-something factory worker listens to heavy metal and occasionally lets his girlfriend into his life. The frail, retired teacher, who raised the boy after his mother’s departure, is the embodiment of care and understanding. However, their tranquil, shared reality, which embraces both the hardcore band Našrot and Bergman’s “Cries and Whispers,” is disrupted by the sudden death of the mother. Young Richard sets out on a peculiar initiation journey with bizarre encounters and moments of unexpected enlightenment.
