I Will Come Back as a Baby

In 1630, a plague epidemic ravages the city of Milan. In a climate of suspicion and terror, two men are accused of spreading the disease in the city. Interrogated and tortured, they are forced to expose the story of an imaginary crime. Then, before dying, they invent the story of the Sowers of Plague.

The principle of the film l'Ébranlement is twofold, based on the visual approximation of two distant terms (fencing and fireworks) and on a principle of expenditure (the possible engendering of one by the other). Images of fireworks are edited in echo to shots of a fencing duel, situated in a perforated architecture, with arcades (the Vieille Charité, in Marseille), which multiplies the incessant passages from shadow to light. At the moment of the clash (the point of the foil touching the opponent's body), the fireworks unfold as if the contact was established - an explosion, an epidemic mode of contamination by successive stings, point by point. The touch of the foil answers the blaze of the sky. As soon as the sky darkens, after the last spikes of light are extinguished, the fencing duel can be resumed, like a carillon or an automatic game. The attack is a flash of lightning that sets the collar on fire.

A group of children mysteriously falls asleep during a class field trip in the Japanese countryside. The teacher who accompanied them will later be interrogated by the American secret services concerning their disappearance. Inspired by part of Haruki Murakami's novel Kafka on the Shore, it shares the same desire to combine a quasi-documentary aesthetic with supernatural themes.

In the garden of a villa overlooking the Mediterranean, a man working on the Arabic translation of Oscar Wilde's trial. Under the light of a summer night and throughout the following nights, the various protagonists of the trial come to him. It embodies the turns and revives the aesthetic and political stakes of this fight. This verbal battle then appears as the last work - precious and ferocious - of the English dandy.
