A Life for Do

A restaurant cashier, who has a mutual attraction to the restauranteur, has a secret passion for dance. As soon as she finishes work she is off down to the dance studio for a practice. She has a chance meeting with a handsome impresario, who promises to make her into the greatest dancer the world has ever known.

In this exotic adventure, unscrupulous gun runners threaten a captain, and a ship is in danger of sinking.

The student traces the washerwoman, and he tricks her into confessing what she has done with the baby. Meanwhile, the baby has been adopted by the cab driver and his wife, and has grown into Lili Damita.

In Alt-Köstendorf in the Salzburg region, the dean, known as Seelenbräu, and the brewer Hochleithner, known in the village as Leibesbräu, are fighting for supremacy. As their nicknames suggest, Leibesbräu is primarily concerned with the physical well-being of the villagers, while Seelenbräu cares deeply about the faith of his congregation. When Hochleitner's niece Clementine leaves the convent and wants to stay at home, a new dispute flares up between Seelenbräu and Leibesbräu.

Peace has returned to Björndal. After his father's death, young Dag succeeds him and strives to build a good relationship with his neighbor von Gall. The young farmer is determined to return the Borgland farm, which his father acquired by secretly purchasing bills of exchange. Dag leaves the old man in charge of the estate and assigns Aunt Elo, a lovely relative of his wife Adelheid, to assist him. He also brings Adelheid's father, Major Barre, to Björndal, where he is to spend his retirement with the young family. According to the Lexicon of International Films, the film is a Heimatfilm of a relatively respectable standard.

France in the 15th Century: The country is marked by the wars with England and internal power struggles. King Charles sees himself powerless against the state. In another dream sequence, Mary becomes the Queen of Syria, whose oppressed people turn against her and who, in turn, condemns a young man who loves her to death. Finally, her dream returns to the present time and when she awakens, she runs back to her former lover.
