Psychiatrist Sydney Garland spends another day at the office, but when a gunned man with an unknown want enters, things take an unexpected turn.

Coleman Silk is a worldly and admired professor who loses his job after unwittingly making a racial slur. To clear his name, Silk writes a book about the events with his friend and colleague Nathan Zuckerman, who in the process discovers a dark secret Silk has hidden his whole life. All the while, Silk engages in an affair with Faunia Farley, a younger woman whose tormented past threatens to unravel the layers of deception Silk has constructed.

An ex-addict call girl, recently released from prison, returns to the same neighborhood that brought her down to search for her missing son. Her ex-pimp uses her desperation to his advantage by selling her services to a local man that has been snooping around in exchange for the safe return of her son. She accepts, but learns the local man is an undercover cop trying to bring down the pimp for his own daughter's death.

A gang member recues his nephew from his alcoholic sister and boyfriend, taking him into his house while his sisters recovers. But as time basses by, he has a hard time letting go. While raising money for his nephew to participate at a local spelling bee, he learns to become a better person, changing his own living habits, for a better future. All in all, while his nephew's father places a bounty on his head.

The East Side of Los Angeles, known for its drugs, violence and corruption is about to go to war. This Time, however, it's between two childhood friends who are forced to face a secret so deep that it has kept them apart for 15 years. Luis Ruiz, a former gang leader, is on the verge of getting out but his younger brother, Carlos, will not allow it. To make matters worse Luis falls in love with Tess McKay, an LAPD cop whose sole mission is to end the gang war. Luis must choose between two worlds: one where his family lives, or the other where his future lies.

A restaurant dishwasher and the boss' daughter fall in love but are forbidden to interact. They communicate through letters of poetry they leave for one another.
