After living in a boarding school for some years, Peggy Dean accepts the invitation of her Aunts Abigail and Salina to live with them. They warn her that she will be "on probation" because of the family's displeasure with Peggy's father for marrying an actress, so Peggy masquerades as an exceedingly prim and proper missionary.

When a man's wife is accused of adultery, her insanely jealous husband gives her young son away to a traveling band of gypsies. Years later, when the son grows up, he sets out to prove that his mother wasn't guilty of adultery but was actually trying to help her sister-in-law escape the clutches of a blackmailer.

In this romance, a slightly crooked and highly ambitious mayoral candidate convinces a woman to help him blackmail the incumbent by using a little baby as evidence in a paternity suit. The girl goes along with it until she learns that the mayor is innocent.

Cavalry officer Etienne, her fiancé, is shocked by the seeming lack of modesty of Fifi, who is now known as Mademoiselle Modiste, becomes disillusioned and leaves her. Disheartened, Fifi asks Hiram to take her to Deauville, where she meets Etienne. Enraged with jealousy, Etienne challenges Hiram to a duel. Fifi says that Hiram is her husband, but the truth is later revealed. Etienne proposes and Fifi accepts. A lost film.

Madeline Gray, a young San Francisco woman spending the winter in the tropics, is suddenly called home. Accompanied by her friend Walter Maxwell, she books passage on a schooner owned by Bucko McAllister--aka "The Brute Master" because of his brutal, tyrannical behavior. Once they're at sea a crew member mutinies, locks McAllister in his cabin and sets the ship on fire. Maxwell, Madeline and the remaining crew make it off the ship and to a nearby island, where they make a discovery that they weren't expecting at all.

When the house is raided, Dravich takes her on his travels around the world until they finally settle in a small Arizona mining camp. Broken, she sees Jan but is too ashamed to speak to him sending instead for her old tutor Boris. Upon arrival Boris kills Dravich but is shot by the sheriff. Katinka, now free, follows Jan to New York. After further travail the pair are finally reunited.

After Harry, not recognized by Echo, gives her the letters, Craig is shot, and Harry, along with Paddy--now a burglar--is sent to prison. Harry escapes and finds himself nominated to run for governor on the "dry" ticket. After Echo confirms that he was innocent of shooting Craig, Harry wins the election and her love.
