The events depicted in the series are based upon the book by Doris Kearns Goodwin titled The Fitzgeralds and the Kennedys : An American Saga. The series aired across three nights, an earned an Emmy and Golden Globe.

The heist was also the subject of the much better-known 1990 film "Goodfella"s, directed by Martin Scorsese.
