I want to tell my story
Shimon Rothschild knows exactly where everyone needs to stand on set: the cinematographer, the set pieces, and the actors portraying his family members who perished in the Holocaust. Approaching his 100th birthday, Shimon reenacts his life story alongside director Tomer Heymann: the sequence of coincidences that saved him from the gas chambers in Auschwitz, the brutal medical experiments at Sachsenhausen, the death march, and life after the war. In a specialized studio built for him, and through actors portraying figures from his past, Shimon walks through the space, issuing instructions with uncompromising resolve and a unique sense of humor, probing the boundaries between memory and reconstruction.
