Submissive Homeland

Ana Clara Gomes Machado was five years old and used to say she wanted to be just like her mother when she grew up. On the morning of February 2, 2021, while playing outside her home, she was struck by four rifle rounds fired by a military police officer in Rio de Janeiro. The Civil Police detective who arrived at the scene of the killing stated there was no doubt as to who fired the shots: Corporal Bruno Delaroli. The case remained without a trial for five years. Just as the family believed justice was within reach, a new lawyer joined the case, and to this day, the officer has yet to stand trial. That lawyer was, at the time, a sitting senator—now a candidate for the Presidency of the Republic—Flávio Bolsonaro. What was a senator’s motive for defending a man caught in the act of murdering a child? To this day, her mother, Cristiane Gomes da Silva, mourns the loss of her daughter and the justice that never arrived.

You know that beach you go to for a bit of rest? They want to take it away from you. The so-called "Beach Amendment" (PEC das Praias)—championed in the Senate by Flávio Bolsonaro—could change who owns the Brazilian coastline, an area that belongs to everyone, by handing control over to hotels, resorts, and luxury condominium developments. In practice, these developments would take over the entire beach area, leaving access to the sand and the sea exclusively to tourists—while you, as a Brazilian resident, would lose your access to the beach. This model already exists in places like Cancún and Jamaica: there, the people in bikinis are foreigners, while the locals are the ones wearing uniforms and working. And that is exactly what could happen if Flávio Bolsonaro becomes president of Brazil.

Through deep examination, this documentary from Oscar nominee Petra Costa explores the profound impact of evangelism on Brazil's political landscape.

A raw, poetic self-portrait in which young, NYC-born Afro-Latina Rebeca “Beba” Huntt stares down historical, societal, and generational trauma.

Why does a Saint provoke such hatred in those who seek to rule the country? For many people, Our Lady of Aparecida is the patroness of Brazil—the mother of Jesus. Yet, Bishop JB Carvalho has labeled Aparecida the “right-hand woman of Satan” and called for her to be stripped of her status as Brazil’s patroness. It was in his very church that Flávio Bolsonaro chose to be baptized. Among so many pastors, why surround oneself with someone who spreads hatred against people’s faith?

Remember the episode where Fábio Porchat revealed the connections between Flávio Bolsonaro, Daniel Vorcaro, and Banco Master? Well, he’s back. And this time, the story is even more scandalous. What appeared to be a close-knit brotherhood was, in fact, a web of alleged partnerships, business dealings, and financial ties—involving far more people than we mentioned last time. Money hidden in books, offshore accounts, private jets, mansions, suspected fraud targeting INSS (social security) pensioners, parties involving trafficked women, and even a Supreme Federal Court justice. In this episode, Fábio Porchat connects the dots of an elaborate network of "straw men"—a scheme involving Willer Tomaz, Daniel Vorcaro, and Kassio Nunes Marques, leading all the way to presidential candidate Flávio Bolsonaro. On paper, no one seems to own anything. But who is really behind it all? And what will become of these investigations if Flávio Bolsonaro reaches the presidency?

People who have never had to do real work want to convince you that the best approach is to cut investments for those who are out there grinding every day. Flávio Bolsonaro—who was accused of being a "ghost employee" in Jair’s office at the age of 19 and has always lived off his father—wants to cut the very things that have helped millions of Brazilians get ahead in life: social security, healthcare, education, the *Bolsa Família* welfare program, and labor rights. This is the man who wants to be president of Brazil. If Flávio wins, you lose.

Some politicians argue that buying a gun should be as simple as getting a driver’s license. But will having more guns actually protect your family? Flávio Bolsonaro and his allies want to make it even easier to access firearms in Brazil. When the Jair Bolsonaro administration relaxed gun regulations, legally purchased weapons ended up in the hands of organized crime, while women and children became even more exposed to violence. In the final episode of the season, Alessandra Orofino, general director of *Revelando*, reveals how the Bolsonaros’ gun policy has put even more Brazilian lives at risk.

Revelando is a series of special reports about uncomfortable truths told in a way that has never been done before. You will be shown cases that echo to this day in Brazil but were never fully explained.
