Canopus is a coming of age film about a grandson and his grandfather. Following the death of his father, 19 year old Agastya travels to his ancestral village to immerse his father's ashes in the river. Unlike the people around him, he feels no grief. Reunited with his grandfather, Agastya is taken through the places and memories that shaped his father's childhood. As he struggles to connect with a past he never knew, he slowly starts retracing his father's steps. When the ashes mysteriously disappear, Agastya is forced to confront the grief he has been avoiding. Through his grandfather, his father's memories and the journey back home, Agastya finally discovers that grief is not always about holding on, it is also about learning to let go.
