Ghani is a young man of limited intellect who is determined to sacrifice his buffalo, Lambo, in order to fulfill his older brother's dreams. He and his mother work hard to support the family and finance his brother Mustafa's education. Ghani often questions why he needs to make sacrifices for his older brother.

Sakinah, a caregiver to Amar (who cannot speak due to trauma from abuse by his own aunt), is also frequently a victim of abuse from her own husband. Various conflicts occur, and eventually Amar dies.

100 years ago, Suri was kidnapped by Musa with the help of Mbah Timah to Bukit Tinggi because she refused to marry the child of the British colonists. There, he fell in love with Hendra, the son of Pak Lurah and they got married. Out of revenge, Musa with the help of Mbah Timah killed Suri and her husband in front of their son, Ryanto. Before being killed, Suri promised to rise again to destroy the entire lineage of Musa.
