Memories of a Kiss

In a village in Meghalaya, northeast India, several young men mysteriously disappear during the night. While the elders accuse passing strangers of kidnapping, the preacher sees the beginnings of an apocalypse lasting 40 days and 40 nights which will plunge the inhabitants of the village into darkness. Seen through the eyes of Kasan, a ten-year-old boy suffering from night blindness, the surrounding forests have never seemed so terrifying.

Jogi, once a dancer but now a boatman, deliberately overthrows his boat full of people to kill himself, but manages to survive alone. Later, Jogi becomes the manager of Nirvana Hotel at a resort in the Himalayas, and faces a family there.

Krishna, 17 years-old and pregnant, returns to her village home in rural West Bengal to face her family and challenge the marriage of Tara, her beloved younger sister. Faced with patriarchy and the generational oppression of women the reunited sisters must reconcile their differences and make a fateful choice.

Follows Nasir, a middle-aged street salesman, who belongs to the Islamic minority and who lives with his mother Fatima, his wife Taj and his cousin Iqbal in a densely populated ghetto. As his day unfolds we find him to be a nimble romantic, marshalling a love of love, song, children, friendship, and even God to rise into something resembling a life well lived. But the increasing communal bigotry has other plans.

In a region where the native language is often overlooked, a young Bundelkhandi rapper works tirelessly on his first album. As he faces financial struggles and a lack of resources, the question remains: will he be able to make it and at what cost?

After a successful season in the Upper Dhauladhar Mountains, a hunter hides his meat in a cave and heads home with his first load. At home, his wife is upset over his prolonged absence and its impact on their disabled daughter. He promises to return quickly and the next morning, sets out to retrieve the rest of the meat and leave the forest for the season. To his dismay, he finds the cave empty and the meat stolen. Using his hunter instincts he launches a desperate search through the treacherous mountain, discovering that the rival is just as cunning. In this quest for meat, humans behave no differently than wild animals. Battling harsh conditions and difficult terrains, they go to all extremes to prove themselves stronger and more deserving. This allegorical tale of conflicting morals and twisted values reveals the true nature of man in the wild.

When a Police Academy cuts Trees illegally, a concerned Family confronts them only to learn it is non-cognizable offense without penal provision. They approach a Tree Activist who saves trees by all means. The community gathers under the tree at night to protect it from felling but it is not that simple.

Fusing documentary-realism with magic-realism, and true and fictionalised stories with poetry and dreams, Ghode Ko Jalebi Khilane Le Ja Riya Hoon is a love letter to the syncretic culture of Old Delhi, to its history which is slowly losing itself amid concrete and smog
