Lily is a lost girl who lived a miserable childhood. Now she works for Martial, a small-time crook. One day, she meets Armand, a shy high school student, the son of a renowned surgeon. And she discovers true love. But Martial is nothing of a tender heart, on the contrary. He manipulates Lily into forcing Armand to mimic the signature of his father, which will allow his gang to obtain drugs with a view to selling them...

A great provincial lawyer is found murdered with a revolver shot in the red path that leads to his mistress's home. The Advocate General accuses his own wife who was a betrayed mistress and whom he assumes guilty out of spite. But the accused's daughter finds the real culprit.

Doctor Rougel is so absorbed in his work that he neglects his wife Nadine, who is subjected to the advances of Gérard Bérault, an admirer. A series of unfortunate events leads the doctor to doubt the fidelity of his wife, and he shamelessly throws her out. Michèle, the Rougels' little daughter, sick from despair, will eventually reunite her estranged parents.

A pessimistic urban drama, with a musical score by Jack Sels and Max Damasse, charts in strongly expressionistically lit black-and-white images the wanderings of a tormented man through the cosmopolitan port city of Antwerp. The only people to show him understanding are an orphan and two disillusioned women.

A band of traffickers seeks to infiltrate among smugglers on the Franco-Belgian border. Josée, a superb girl, is the mistress of Gueule en or, one of the smugglers.

Lucien Dolo, a diamond dealer candidate for the Municipal Council of Antwerp, is the subject of a press campaign insinuating that he would be responsible for the mysterious disappearance of his brother Frédéric-Sébastien, known as Freddy during an expedition to the Congo, in which Lucien had participated. Freddy's bad reputation and the hatred existing between the two brothers gives substance to this suspicion. In order to lift the charges against her husband, Isabelle asks Inspector Wens to investigate.
